Magnesium Ingot
Name: Magnesium Ingot
English Name: Magnesium
Molecular Formula: Mg
Molecular Weight: 24.31
CAS No: 7439-95-4
1. Product Description
Magnesium is a silvery-white metal with a hexagonal crystal system.
Melting point: 648.5 ℃
Boiling point: 1107 ℃
Relative density: 1.74
Soluble in inorganic acids and ammonium salts; insoluble in cold water, chromic anhydride and alkalis.
It decomposes in hot water to form magnesium hydroxide.
It maintains metallic luster in dry air, yet forms a gray oxide film through oxidation in humid air.
Massive magnesium is stable at room temperature, while magnesium powder and scraps pose a fire hazard and shall be handled with caution.
At high temperatures, massive magnesium is susceptible to oxidative combustion.
Heat treatment and other operations shall be carried out under the protective atmosphere of sulfur dioxide or sulfur hexafluoride.
2. Applications
It is mainly applied in four core fields: magnesium alloy production, aluminum alloy production, steelmaking desulfurization, aerospace and military industry.
It is also widely used in rare earth alloys, metal reduction, chemical industry and instrument manufacturing.
