Magnesium Granules
Name: Magnesium Granules
English Name: Magnesium
Molecular Formula: Mg
Molecular Weight: 24.31
CAS No: 7439-95-4
1. Product Description
Made of high-quality magnesium. Its production process is similar to that of magnesium powder.
It serves as a high-efficiency desulfurizer in iron and steel metallurgy, and is commonly used for the preparation of Grignard reagents in the production of pharmaceutical intermediates.
Magnesium is a silvery-white metal with a hexagonal crystal system.
Melting point: 648.5 ℃
Boiling point: 1107 ℃
Relative density: 1.74
Soluble in inorganic acids and ammonium salts; insoluble in cold water, chromic anhydride and alkalis.
It reacts with hot water to produce magnesium hydroxide.
It keeps metallic luster in dry air, and oxidizes to form a gray oxide film in humid air.
Magnesium powder and debris are fire hazards at room temperature and shall be handled with caution.
Massive magnesium is prone to oxidative combustion at high temperatures.
Heat treatment and other operations shall be carried out under the protection of sulfur dioxide or sulfur hexafluoride atmosphere.
2. Applications
Mainly used in magnesium alloy production, aluminum alloy production, steel desulfurization, aerospace and military industry.
It is also widely applied in rare earth alloys, metal reduction, chemical industry and instrument manufacturing.
