Magnesium Powder

Name: Magnesium Powder
English Name: Magnesium
Molecular Formula: Mg
Molecular Weight: 24.31
CAS No: 7439-95-4

1. Product Description
This product is produced from high-purity magnesium. It features complex production processes and high technical requirements with excellent safety performance.
It is suitable for Grignard reactions with special conditions and strict process selectivity.
In addition, it can be used as a reducing agent in rare metal production and a dehydrating agent in organic synthesis.
Magnesium powder is also widely applied in optical technology for military and aerospace fields.
Magnesium is a silvery-white metal with a hexagonal crystal system.
Melting point: 648.5 ℃
Boiling point: 1107 ℃
Relative density: 1.74
It is soluble in inorganic acids and ammonium salts, insoluble in cold water, chromic anhydride and alkalis.
It decomposes in hot water to form magnesium hydroxide.
It remains lustrous in dry air and forms a gray oxide film through oxidation in humid air.
Magnesium powder and scraps are flammable at room temperature and shall be handled with caution.
Massive magnesium is susceptible to oxidative combustion at high temperatures.
Heat treatment and other operations shall be carried out under the protective atmosphere of sulfur dioxide or sulfur hexafluoride.

2. Applications
It is mainly used in four core fields: magnesium alloy manufacturing, aluminum alloy production, steel desulfurization, aerospace and military industry.
It is also applied to rare earth alloys, metal reduction, chemical industry and instrument manufacturing.
